Making a Kumanofude (Part1)

Fude Making Process for Kumanofude
The most important process in making a Kumanofude is a process of selecting the right hair and mixing it in a way that best suit for the each type of Kumanofude. Kumanofude are made one by one with a great care by the skilled hands and trained eyes of experienced craftsmen.
1 "Senmo" (Selecting the right hair)
"Kegumi" (Determining the combination of different hairs)
2 "Hinoshi" (Ironing the hair)
"Kemomi" (Rubbing the hair to take off the oil content of the hair)
3 "Ke-soroe" (Setting the hair)
4 "Sakage-tori" "Surege-tori" (Removing the hair facing wrong direction and damaged hair)
5 "Sungiri" (Cutting the hair into the different sizes. We never cut the top of the hair.)
These processes are called “Preparation” altogether.
6 "Neri-maze" (Mixing the different types of hairs)
7 "Shintate" (Making the core of Fude)
8 "Koromo-ge" (Wrapping around the core of a Fude with the different hair)
9 "Itojime" (Tying the thread)d)
These processes are called “Dai-shigoto” altogether.
10 "Kurikomi" (Inserting a Fude head into a Fude handle)
11 "Finishing" (Making a Fude head to cone-shaped with glue)
12 "Engraving" (Engraving the signature of the each workshop on the handle of Fude)
